THOSE about to rock into Newcastle got an elaborate salute on Monday as KISS took their first ride on the light rail. Well, almost.
Supercars drivers Anton De Pasquale and David Reynolds, the reigning Newcastle 500 victor, joined lord mayor Nuatali Nelmes to unveil a fresh decals promoting November’s race plastered on one of the city’s trams.
KISS were announced as the headline musical act for the 2019 event late last year. They will play No. 1 Sportsground on November 23.
“It’s very cool to be up there alongside KISS,” Reynolds said.
“Newcastle is one of my favourite events. The street circuit is one of the hardest we race on and the fans embrace us like nowhere else.”
Supercars Newcastle event manager Kurt Sakzewski thanked the council for its support. He said added light rail and train services would also help the crowds arrive and disperse.
“We’re expecting KISS and the Screaming Jets to bring in another huge crowd of local fans and visitors,” he said.
