GoTransit Media Group is supporting The Bush Nursery – Grown on Country and Eumundi State School to help bring Bush Tukka education to life. The partnership uses Indigenous-led knowledge, native foods and interactive signage to support cultural learning during National Reconciliation Week 2026.

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to consider how reconciliation can be strengthened through meaningful action.

A Living Classroom Rooted in Country

GoTransit Media Group is proud to support The Bush Nursery – Grown on Country, a 100% Indigenous-owned Sunshine Coast business, and Eumundi State School in the development of the school’s Bush Tukka Garden. The project is transforming the garden into an interactive outdoor learning space where students can explore how native foods are grown, harvested, prepared and connected to Country.

Led by Eumundi State School Environmental Science teacher Emma Heffernan, students are learning about sustainability, biodiversity, pollination and traditional food knowledge through hands-on experiences in the garden. Year 4 students have also planted native food sources to attract pollinators, with Native Blue Banded bees now contributing to the garden’s growing ecosystem.

Bringing Bush Tukka Knowledge to Life

With support from GoTransit Media Group and guidance from The Bush Nursery, new educational signage with interactive QR codes will be installed throughout the garden. These signs will help students, teachers and the wider community access information about:

  • traditional cultural uses of native plants
  • modern-day applications
  • safe preparation methods
  • environmental and educational insights

This blend of traditional knowledge and digital technology supports a deeper understanding of native foods while creating a more engaging learning experience for young people.

Reconciliation in Action

For GoTransit Media Group, the project forms part of a broader commitment to reconciliation. In September 2025, GoTransit’s inaugural Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan was endorsed by Reconciliation Australia, reinforcing the company’s long-term focus on meaningful reconciliation and community impact.

GoTransit’s support for the Eumundi State School Bush Tukka Garden includes a $500 contribution from the company’s RAP working group. The donation will help deliver the new QR-code signage and support the garden’s development as a cultural and environmental education space.

Paula Kerr, who leads GoTransit Media Group’s Reconciliation Action Plan, said the initiative reflects the company’s belief that reconciliation is driven by genuine action and partnership.

“By combining traditional knowledge with modern technology like QR codes, this partnership is creating new opportunities for cultural education, environmental awareness and community engagement,”

In the spirit of this year’s theme, GoTransit is All In.
